Taking place in Baku, capital city of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the United Nations Climate Change Conference also known as Conference of Parties, (COP) is on the 29th edition. The Conference which takes place every year brings together almost all countries on earth. It aims at taking key decisions and actions to greatly reduce near-term warming and temperature increase to 1.5 degree Celsius.
As one of the representatives of Cameroon, Minister Jules DORET NDONGO addressed the COP in the China pavilion on issues relating to the role of women in sustainable development. He reiterated that their pivotal role is equally visible in the efficient use and management of forests and its resources, reminding all of the very rich ecosystem that forests represent which act as a source of natural resources to the surrounding communities.
To this end, women tend to fend for their families vis subsistence agriculture thanks to the rich potentials of forests around them.
The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife did not hesitate to applaud the continuous efforts of international partners and the role they play alongside governments to mitigate the ravaging effects of climate change.
