On October 6, 2010, the Republic of Cameroon signed the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA/FLEGT) with the European Union, aimed at establishing a licensing system to ensure that timber and timber products exported by Cameroon to the European Union come from legal sources.

Ratified by the President of Cameroon on August 9, 2011, this agreement officially came into force on December 16, 2011. It symbolized the commitment of both parties to join efforts in combating illegal logging and the associated trade.
