On Monday September 23, 2024, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Jules Doret NDONGO granted an audience to Mrs. Jennifer BIFFORT, Representative of the Non-Governmental Organization WILDAID in Cameroon.

During the audience, attended by the Minister's collaborators from the Central Administration, the Representative presented the NGO's activities, projects and aspirations in the fight against the consumption of illegal game and the protection of the environment.

As part of its activities, the NGO has carried out awareness-raising campaigns to combat poaching of Category A species, notably elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, whales, sea turtles and pangolins. In this way, it has been able to design and broadcast television programs on wildlife and environmental issues. In the specific case of pangolins, the NGO has made the animal the mascot in the fight against poaching, and has been able to get a number of Cameroonian celebrities involved in the fight. In addition, in the Kribi area, it has run a project to protect endangered sea turtles.

In its projections, the NGO plans to carry out an awareness campaign in favor of the new forestry law of July 2024; to raise the population's interest in environmental issues; to involve traditional authorities in environmental challenges; to carry out an outreach campaign in restaurants and encourage them to sell legal game; and to broadcast animated TV programs for the youngest.

At the end of the audience, the representative expressed her wish to work in collaboration and with the support of MINFOF, for which the Minister expressed his appreciation and support.
