MINFOF World Bank cooperation: operation Sustainable Forest Economy of the Congo Basin

On Monday, September 23, 2024, Mr. Jules Doret NDONGO, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife received Mr. Chakib Jenane, Regional Director for Sustainable Development for West and Central Africa at the World Bank in an audience in the conference room of the aforementioned Ministry. The meeting was attended by the Regional Operations Directors for Sustainable Development programs of the same bank and the close collaborators of the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife.

The primary aim of the meeting was to discuss the next steps in the preparation of the "Sustainable Forest Economies of the Congo Basin" project, as agreed with the Cameroonian authorities. In the course of the exchanges, a number of points for the smooth running of the maturation process were raised, notably: -the establishment of a management unit within the Ministry; - an environmental and social safeguard study; as well as - a closer collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development; The aim of this project is to guarantee the preservation and economic exploitation of the forests of the Congo Basin. The target date for the start of this project is July 2025, according to preparations by the government of Cameroon and the World Bank.
