On Thursday 12 September 2024, a national workshop was held at the Yaoundé Hilton Hotel on the socialisation and ownership of the COMIFAC-WWF initiative to increase international flows of funding for the Congo Basin forests.
The workshop was chaired by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Mr JULES DORET NDONGO, who was accompanied on the occasion by his counterpart from the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries and the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, representing the Minister. The event was also attended by members of civil society, representatives of international organisations, development funding partners and MINFOF staff.
This initiative, supported by WWF and COMIFAC, aimed to explore new financing mechanisms to encourage efforts to protect and sustainably develop forest ecosystems. The meeting enabled participants to discuss aspects relating to climate finance players, constraints, issues as well as climate justice.
With a view of capitalising on this innovative financing, it is necessary and imperative for the States of the Congo Basin to work in synergy to better capture climate investments.
