The conference room of the Ministry of forestry and Wildlife was the venue on August 16, 2024, for the official launch of the toll-free number "1507". During the ceremony, Minister Jules Doret Ndongo, who presided over the event, was assisted by his close collaborators as well as representatives of financial and development partners.
The well-attended ceremony was centered on two major points; simulations on the functionality of the number and the Minister’s speech, with the aim to verify the validity of the system which will henceforth be used for denunciations of all forms. To this end, telephone calls were received from all over Cameroon relating to reports of illegal logging of forest resources, scams at check-points and various abuses of services.
In his opening address, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife presented this important tool, which is a weapon of denunciation and communication against acts deemed potentially reprehensible by any person in the forestry and wildlife sectors. With the launch of this number, the challenge is the fight against corruption as well as illegal and unhealthy practices that still plague efforts to clean up the forestry and wildlife sub-sector.
He also highlighted that the introduction of this number adds to the many decisions, attitudes and ongoing battles in the fight against corruption, the illegal exploitation of forest and wildlife products, against deviant and malicious behaviour. In this respect, palpable results have been achieved which include suspension of various titles, transfers and resignations.
Minister Jules Doret Ndongo took the opportunity to remind his collaborators of the imperative need to comply with the law in all their actions.
