On Wednesday 26 June 2024, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Jules DORET NDONGO visited the victim of the chimpanzee attack at NDOM in the Sanaga Maritime division, currently receiving treatmemt at the Yaoundé Central Hospital.

During the visit, the Minister conveyed a message of comfort, solidarity, sympathy and support from the government to the victim and his family, and also congratulated the entire medical team for the professionalism shown in treating the case. During discussions with the medical staff, an update was given on the victim's situation and the measures planned to improve his condition.

Minister Jules DORET NDONGO took the opportunity to point out that Cameroon is prey to human/wildlife conflicts in both the northern and southern parts of the country. In this context, our country, which has ratified a certain number of international conventions, must be able to reconcile the priorities of protecting the population with the requirements of preserving biodiversity. He therefore reminded everyone of the need to inform the authorities in charge of wildlife of any traces of wild animals around habitats so that appropriate measures can be taken to protect people and their property.

Investigations are continuing in an attempt to shed light on the circumstances of this unfortunate incident and the measures that need to be taken to protect people and their property.
