Ahead of the official signing of the cooperation framework agreement on transboundary ecosystem conservation and sustainable management of forestry and wildlife resources between Cameroon and Nigeria on Friday April 29, 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria, technical partners of both countries have met today April 18 to update and coordinate transboundary initiatives around identified cooperation areas and sites. The technical roundtable is also an opportunity for both countries to present the cooperation framework agreement and also constitute working groups to guide and animate cooperation areas.
The management activities will focus on the Faro, Technical Mbabo (under creation), Takamanda, Korup and Waza National Parks in Cameroon for the 3 years which the agreement will run.
The workshop in prelude to the signing equally examined transboundary strategy to combat poaching, illegal exploitation of forest resources and trade as well as sustainable management of forest resources and marketing of forest products.
It is worthy of note that the agreement provides room for the addition of any other strategic transboundary conservation area that may be identified in future.
