The signing ceremony for the document entitled "Sustainable wildlife management to improve the living conditions of local populations phase 2" (gestion durable de la Faune sauvage pour l'amélioration des conditions de vie des populations locales, phase 2) took place today Wednesday, September 06, 2023.
The project which is financed by the European Union, aims to contribute to improving the living conditions of populations dependent on the exploitation of wildlife, conserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems as well as reducing the zoonotic risks associated with wildlife management.
The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife in an address urged all stakeholders, especially MINFOF officials, partner administrations and beneficiary communities, to play their part in order to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
In an earlier speech, the FAO representative Dr Athman MRAVILI, explained that the project will be implemented on a pilot site located on the Djoum-Mintom axis, to the south-east of the Dja wildlife reserve, to develop and test hunting and bush meat management systems capable of sustaining game stocks and securing access to wildlife and its use by the rural population.
The financing organization, the European Union was represented by Mr Philipe MAYAUX, minister and head of the environment and climate change, as well as CIFOR, represented by Dr Abdon AWONO.
