It was at the Garoua Wildlife School in the North region that the Minister of Forests and Wildlife, Jules Doret Ndongo, officially launched the 2021 hunting season. Officially launched on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, this new season takes place in a context marked by the coronavirus pandemic. "The minister reassured all key players that there is hope and that he intends to do everything possible to avoid contamination with covid-19 by banning group travel, anti-covid tests will be applied in airports and the compulsory wearing of masks by visitors. "Particular emphasis will be placed on foreigners entering the country", we can read in the newspaper Le Messager in its publication of February 17, 2021. According to this newspaper, "many players in the chain came to greet this revival because in 2020, the overall amount of the envelope reserved for municipalities and populations living near the various parks had dropped drastically". The launch of the 2020-2021 hunting season also “encourages actors to vigorously fight against poachers who have already committed enormous crimes in the parks. The Minister to salute all the contributions, the residents and the security forces who support the eco-guards in the protection of wildlife species ”, we learn. The 2019-2020 hunting season was suspended on April 20 throughout Cameroon due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a reminder, revenues from this sector have been increasing significantly in recent years. During the 2018-2019 hunting season, Cameroon recorded wildlife revenues estimated at 696 million FCFA. A figure up 7.7% compared to the previous season.
