An important delegation from Arab Contractors, led by Mr. Ahmed Elassar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Arab Contractors, Egypt, was received in audience by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife on 31 July 2023. Well known in Cameroon, especially in the field of public work, the Company exchanged, this time around, with the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife on logging projects. According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, the company’s goal is to diversify its activities in Cameroon, namely in the field of local wood processing, from the first to the third generation of wood processing. The objective of Arab Contractors coming here, was indeed, to seek technical support from MINFOF on various possibilities to get access to the raw material as well as acquaint itself with regulations in force governing the forestry sector in the country. During the audience, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife was visibly satisfied and showed an interest in the targeted project, for it will help to strengthen the decision taken by the CEMAC sub-region to stop exporting timber in the form of logs, which is one of the initiatives aimed at boosting local wood processing as well as enforce the joint Decision MINFOF, MINTP, MINMAP of 15 December 2020 to lay down terms and conditions for the use of legally-sourced timber in public contract in Cameroon. Furthermore, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife also discussed with his hosts about investment opportunities in the ecotourism sector given that our country is endowed with a rich wildlife heritage and possesses several Protected Areas (PAs). At the end of the audience, the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife expressed MINFOF’s readiness to implement projects targeted by Arab Contractors in Cameroon, which will significantly contribute to create wealth and numerous jobs opportunities.
