Minister Jules Doret Ndongo is in a 3 day working visit to the North West regional capital, Bamenda.
Upon his arrival on Wednesday May 3rd, he was welcomed at Up Station, the entrance to the town by the Governor Adolph Lele L'afrique, the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Mezam, Bamenda City Mayor and other high ranking officials of the region.
The first since his appointment at the helm of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, Minister Jules Doret Ndongo brought a message of hope and congratulations to his collaborators if the crisis-hit region. He saluted their resilience and commitment to work in spite of the current situation in the region.
In a later welcome word by the Bamenda City Mayor, Achobong Tembeng Paul, he presented the significant strides they have made in economic development, social welfare and environmental sustainability.
Presenting the forestry situation of the city council, the mayor said some 10.000 trees have been planted within the municipality and more will be planted subsequently. He said they face diverse challenges such as bushfires and illegal exploitation of the forest reserves.
Among their expectations, the municipality requires densification of the escarpment with trees that can hold the soil of this ecological fragile zone, improvement of environmental friendly trees at the City Park and the development of a pilot fruit tree garden for the city.
It was on this note that the first day ended with enthusiasm to embark on the second day and high point of the working visit.
